Meet Transformational Coach Mellania Sog

“I get to bring my whole self to my work and who I am is my most useful instrument and greatest asset.”

Mellania Sog

Okay, let’s get started on the interview!

Tell us who you are in 50 words or less.

I am a passionate student of life, a fiercely loving coach, a lover of all living beings, a natural healer, and a compassionate, reliable, and loyal daughter, sister, partner, and friend.

How and why did you start your business?

There’s a quote that says “When the time comes for you to make a change or to grow, the Universe will make you so uncomfortable you will eventually have no choice.”

I decided to start my business when the pain and discomfort of ignoring my soul’s calling finally outweighed the comfort of staying where I was.

What services do you offer in your business?

I offer 1:1 coaching and work with individuals who are committed to creating meaningful, lasting transformation from the inside out so that they can begin to live an authentic, joyful, and fulfilling life.

What makes your business or services unique?

Every coaching relationship is unique because every coach and every client is unique. There is no other coach who will coach exactly as I do, even if we have the same background, education, and training.

That’s one of my favorite things about being a coach.

I GET TO BRING MY WHOLE SELF TO MY WORK AND WHO I AM IS MY MOST USEFUL INSTRUMENT AND GREATEST ASSET.

THE PEOPLE WHO RESONATE WITH WHO I AM AND HOW I COACH ARE THE ONES WHO BECOME MY CLIENTS.

Having a functional website is an important aspect of running a business. How was the process for you to get your website up and running? For example: Did you create it on your own or did you hire a web designer? Which platform is your website hosted on?

To be totally transparent, I don’t relate to my website as a foundational aspect of my business. I used Squarespace to get it up and running, and found it to be a fairly easy and smooth process.

What resources are you finding helpful in your business right now?

Having my own business and life coach who has already walked the path to get to where I want to go has been incredibly helpful.

Being an entrepreneur can get quite lonely, so having someone consistently in my corner who supports me, guides me, believes in me, and also calls me out when I’m out of integrity with my Higher Self has been such an invaluable resource and gift.

What is the one thing you wished you had known before starting your entrepreneurial journey?

That at times I will feel scared, confused, lost, lonely, anxious, and uncertain, and that at other times I will feel expansive, joyful, creative, limitless, empowered, and full of purpose. And that I get to embrace it all.

Tell us about a time when life threw you a serious curveball in your business and what you did to overcome that curveball?

For years, curveballs in my life have often come in the form of depressive episodes. I’ll be on a roll and bam, an episode will come out of left field and knock me down hard. I used to feel so frustrated and defeated whenever this would happen, especially when it would interfere with my business, but my coach helped me discover a different way of relating to this experience.

Rather than seeing them as a heavy burden and hindrance to my life, I can choose to see my depressive episodes as a signal from my body to slow down and turn up the dial on self-care, self-compassion, and grace.

I WISH TO GIVE NO ILLUSION THAT THIS IS “EASY”, BUT THE LESSON I KEEP LEARNING IS THAT WORKING WITH MY EXPERIENCES IS LESS PAINFUL THAN RESISTING AND FIGHTING AGAINST THEM.

How have you grown personally from becoming an entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur continues to lovingly shove me out of my comfort zone and challenges me to grow and stretch in ways I couldn’t have imagined even a few years ago.

I used to identify as a hardcore introvert who hated talking about myself, and now I find myself attending networking events and connecting with people everywhere I go.

I’ve always thought I was a good listener, but I’m learning to listen at a whole new level as a coach; I don’t only listen to what’s being said, but also to what’s NOT being said.

As a coach, you can’t really take your clients any farther than you yourself have gone, so there’s now an added layer of significance and purpose to being on my own healing journey.

This work reveals to me my own blind spots and limiting stories that keep me from what my soul most desires, and gifts me with so many opportunities to heal my relationship with myself, with my parents, with my partner, with money, with life…

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?

Get super clear on your why. Having a strong and honest why will keep you anchored and grounded, especially on the tougher days.

Connect with people you resonate with who are a bit further along on the path and ask them if they would be willing to share about their experiences.

It’s good to be prepared but you will never feel 100% ready.

AT SOME POINT YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE TO LEAN INTO TRUST AND MAKE THAT LEAP INTO THE UNKNOWN.

Don’t try to do it all alone. Find a coach, a group, or a community that you can lean on for practical advice but also emotional and moral support.

What are some fun facts you would like to share about yourself?

I started taking jiu jitsu classes a little over a year ago, and I’ve been amazed at how much fun I can have while being choked out by someone.

All jokes aside, I’m discovering how much you can learn about life, spirituality, and yourself from jiu jitsu. I didn’t expect that at all going in, but it really is a beautiful sport.

I feel most at home in nature.

What is one thing you’re grateful for right now?

I’m very grateful for my dog Jax. He’s the best coworker ever! He celebrates all of my wins with me, and on the more stressful days, we co-regulate by going on walks and having lots of mini cuddle breaks throughout the day.

The greatest gift is that he loves me unconditionally on my best and worst days.

What are you looking forward to in the next month?

I’m looking forward to the opportunities that will open up for me as I continue to show up for myself and my business, and having lots of fun in the process.
